Persuasive Speech: The only constant is change. Persuasion is about change: changing
beliefs, changing attitudes, and/or changing behaviors. Consequently, persuasion is
omnipresent and eternal. Persuasion is how we alter the world we live in, in both large and
small ways. Persuasion, when done ethically and effectively, makes the world better and
advances human development.
Your assignment is to prepare and deliver a persuasive speech about a topic where
disagreement exists. Either:
• Take a stance on the issue and build your speech around it. State your position and
support your claim with quality evidence; utilizing solid and ethical reasoning and logic.
• Identify an issue and propose a viable solution to the problem, using ethical reasoning
and logic.
• Length of speech is four (4) to six (6) minutes. Deductions occur for every fraction of a
minute over or under these parameters.
This speech will be recorded. Our emphasis is on delivery; consequently, visual aids are
discouraged. Computer project is prohibited.
